A single-car accident in Sun City resulted in a overturned Mazda CX-5, multiple homes without power and a gas leak Monday morning.

The Bluffton Township Fire District got a call for the accident at around 11:20 a.m. Monday. The car ran into a transformer box off Pineapple Drive and flipped, hitting the side of the house and severing a gas meter.

“We evacuated about 20 homes as a safety precaution, which is pretty standard when there’s a significant gas leak like that,” said the Fire District’s spokesperson Stephen Combs.

Less than 10 residents were impacted by the power outage, and power was fully restored by 2:00 p.m., the fire district said.

No one was injured, including the two people in the car.

This report will be updated as more information becomes available.
