Halloween night gunfire spooks Port Royal neighborhood; no injuries reported, police say
The crime scene tape blocking off Saluda Way wasn’t a last-minute decoration: A small stream of gunfire interrupted Halloween night trick-or-treating in the Shadow Moss neighborhood of Port Royal. No injuries were reported, police said Wednesday morning.
Port Royal police received a report of shots fired just before 9 p.m. Tuesday night, arriving to find between five and 10 shell casings in the area of Saluda Way.
No nearby vehicles or structures were damaged by gunfire, said Capt. John Griffith, a spokesperson for the Port Royal Police Department. Investigators do not yet know whether the incident was a drive-by shooting or if a certain home was being targeted.
Suspects had not been identified as of Wednesday morning, according to Griffith. Officers were still on the scene collecting evidence and interviewing neighbors as of 11 a.m., with Saluda Way blocked off between Chauga Street and Coosawatchie Way.
