Bluffton man charged with DUI, cocaine possession after passenger ejects from golf cart
A Bluffton man was arrested and charged with DUI and cocaine possession after an evening cart ride left his passenger hospitalized.
Daniel Campos, 46, and an unidentified passenger were riding along Ulmer Road, near Bluffton, in a 1997 E-Z-GO golf cart when the passenger was ejected from the cart, according to Trooper Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Pye was not able to confirm what caused the passenger’s ejection, but did clarify there was no collision. The passenger was transported for Savannah Memorial Hospital for medical attention.
When Highway patrol arrived at the scene, they found cocaine in Campos’s possession and determined he was under the influence of some unknown substance. Tests are being completed to determine the cause of his impairment.
Campos was charged with felony DUI; with great bodily injury and first degree possession of cocaine.
Trooper Pye stressed that golf carts are like any other vehicle and cannot be operated under the influence of substances.
