Man shot during gunfire between 2 moving cars along Jasper County interstate Thursday

One man was taken to the hospital after a shooting between two moving vehicles along I-95 outside Yemassee Thursday afternoon, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

The two cars were driving south down Frontage Rd, which runs alongside I-95 where Highway 17 meets the interstate. They exchanged gunfire just after 1 p.m., leaving one occupant with a gunshot wound, said Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Chief Jeff Crosby. Although no arrests have been made, officers have already identified persons of interest.

Police were still investigating the scene of the shooting near I-95 as of 3 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators do not yet know whether the gunshot victim was a driver or passenger in the car, and the victim’s condition remains unknown as of Thursday afternoon. Crosby did not answer questions about the number of shots fired during the incident.
