Beaufort High School was “deemed safe” after a reported bomb threat in the building Thursday morning. No threats or dangerous materials were found during a sweep of the building, according to an update from the Beaufort Police Department just before noon.

Officers from the Beaufort Police Department and Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to the school as of 10:40 a.m. Thursday. Police said residents should expect a “a large law enforcement presence” in the area.

Beaufort County public school students don’t begin classes until Aug. 21, but Thursday is an in-service day for school staff, according to the school district calendar. It is unknown whether any faculty or staff were in the building at the time of the threat.

This report will be updated as more information becomes available.
