A small plane made an emergency landing on Lady’s Island after an in-flight malfunction late Monday night. Both occupants, a flight instructor and a young Beaufort pilot-in-training, were unharmed.

The single-engine aircraft landed and came to a stop around 11 p.m. Monday in the right turn lane of Lady’s Island Drive, just before the road’s intersection with Sea Island Parkway. The plane was not damaged during the landing, according to a police report from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Beaufort County deputies arrived to find the flight student and pilot, Edison Rivers, standing on the sidewalk by the plane. Personnel from the Beaufort Executive Airport towed the plane back to the airport, escorted by police.

No vehicles were damaged by the plane during the emergency landing, said Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Maj. Angela Viens. It is unknown whether cars were in the immediate area when the aircraft touched down.
