The Beaufort County Sheriff’s is investigating a shooting on Shiney Road on Saint Helena Island that left one person injured Wednesday afternoon.

At about 2:21 p.m. a female, whose name has not been released to the public, was shot once. The gunshot wound isn’t believed to be life threatening at this time, according to the Sheriff’s Office’s Spokesperson Angela Veins. Shiney Road is located between Saxonville Road and Seaside Road.

The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment. No information on the hospital’s location was provided.

An increased law enforcement presence should be expected in the area, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s office added “because of the increased presence and congestion of law enforcement vehicles - unnecessary traffic should avoid the area”
