‘Complete loss’ in Bluffton house fire early Wednesday, 1 treated for smoke inhalation
A house fire in Bluffton’s Cypress Ridge subdivision early Wednesday morning raged through the single-family home but did not injure any of its five occupants, according to the Bluffton Township Fire District.
Bluffton firefighters received a call around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and arrived to the Bahr Mill Lane home just three minutes later, when fast-moving flames had already engulfed the two-story home.
The home’s five residents, including one woman and four teens, were awakened by the smoke alarms and all escaped safely, department spokesperson Stephen Combs told The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette. The woman was hospitalized for smoke inhalation but released in good condition later that morning.
The house was a “complete loss,” along with two heavily damaged cars that were parked out front, Combs said. Investigators don’t yet know what sparked the early-morning flames, but Combs said the fire most likely started near the garage area, where most of the damage took place.
Bluffton Township Fire District crews are investigating the Wednesday morning incident.
