A pair of unrelated shootings on northern Hilton Head Island left three people injured this weekend, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Shots rang out at the Hilton Head Gardens apartments on Southwood Park Drive around 8:30 p.m. Friday, according to a Monday afternoon alert. One 32-year-old woman who was shot in the head was driven by others to Hilton Head Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where she remains in stable condition, said Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Maj. Angela Viens.

Police believe the woman was shot in the head while trying to intervene in a dispute at the apartment complex. Friday night’s incident also brought minor facial injuries for another person and left a number of bullet holes in a nearby vehicle, Viens said.

The weekend’s second incident came at the tail end of a graduation party at Greens Shell Park, when gunfire erupted near the crowd of 30 around 6:20 p.m. Saturday. An 18-year-old attendee from Bluffton was shot in the leg, police say. He was driven to Hilton Head Hospital and later released.

Viens would not say how many total shots were fired in either weekend incident. The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the names of suspects.

The island’s two incidents were part of a larger string of recent gun-related reports across Beaufort County. A dispute between partygoers at Beaufort’s Quality Inn ended in the murder of a 24-year-old man who was gunned down while trying to leave. Sheriff’s Office deputies also received several reports of gunfire Monday evening near Bruce K. Smalls Drive in Grays Hill.
