Pedestrian hit by car while crossing street in Old Town Bluffton, police say

A woman who was hit by a car while crossing the road in Old Town Bluffton was in stable condition while being taken to the hospital, according to the Bluffton Police Department.

The collision took place around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday as the woman attempted to cross Dr. Mellichamp Drive, said department spokesperson Sgt. Bonifacio Perez. He added that the woman was conscious, had no broken bones and was talking to first responders while waiting for an ambulance.

The woman was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah for treatment, Perez said.

Additional details about the crash, including which party was at fault, were not immediately available. Perez would not answer questions about whether or not the woman was jaywalking.

All lanes of traffic on Dr. Mellichamp Drive were cleared as of 1:45 p.m., Perez said.
