Fire Sunday causes extensive damage to garage and cars at Bluffton home, displaces family
A house fire caused extensive damage to a Bluffton home Sunday evening, according to the Bluffton Township Fire District.
The fire occurred just before 7 p.m. on Stoney Crossing, located within Bluffton’s Edgefield neighborhood, according to Battalion Chief Todd Harvey. First responders arrived to see flames engulfing the garage and multiple cars in the driveway.
Firefighters were quickly able to control the flames, which did not spread beyond the garage. All five residents — four adults and one child — evacuated the home safely and without injury, Harvey said.
The home’s garage and roof were “severely damaged,” but the rest of the home was only impacted by smoke. Three vehicles parked in the driveway were also badly damaged.
The fire began in the garage, Harvey said, but the cause is not yet available. The Bluffton Township Fire District Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the incident.
Community members are joining efforts to donate clothing and other necessities to the family, along with Walmart gift cards and other resources for food, according to a Facebook post from a neighbor.
Donations can be dropped off at 264 Stoney Crossing, according to the post.
