Two men were wounded Tuesday night in a shooting on Hilton Head, police say

Police are investigating what led to a shooting that left two men injured after shots were fired near Hilton Head’s Muddy Creek Road Tuesday night, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 8:05 p.m., deputies got multiple calls about shots fired in the roadway near Muddy Creek Road and Bryant Road, said Maj. Angela Viens, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office. A 23-year-old man was shot multiple times and transported to the hospital. Later, an 18-year-old man, who had been shot in the same incident, went to Hilton Head Hospital for treatment of gunshot injuries, police said in a sheriff’s office alert.

Investigators are not sure whether the two were fighting each other or whether there were other people involved.

Both men were taken to Savannah Memorial Hospital for treatment and were in stable condition Wednesday, although neither could give police “clear interviews” about what happened Tuesday night because they were receiving treatment, Viens said.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Anyone with information may call the sheriff’s office non-emergency dispatch at 843-524-2777 or Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111.
