Man dead after a shooting Tuesday night on St. Helena Island, police say

One man died from his injuries following a shooting Tuesday night on St. Helena Island, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

The person killed was identified as 38-year-old Anthwon Washington in a Nixle alert from the sheriff’s office Wednesday morning. His place of residence was not released.

Deputies responded to Ginseng Lane and Seaside Road around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday after getting a call that someone had been shot. Washington had been hit multiple times, police said in the alert. He was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Seaside Road was shut down temporarily while deputies investigated.

As of Wednesday morning, no suspect had been identified.
