A motorcyclist who was struck by a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 278 in Bluffton has died, according to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.

The man was identified as Colin Roff, 29, of Beaufort. He died at about 6 p.m. after being airlifted from the scene to Memorial Health in Savannah.

As of Wednesday, the coroner’s office cannot offer a preliminary cause of death, according to Beaufort County Coroner David Ott.

The accident occurred at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, when the driver of a 2019 Toyota pickup truck attempted to turn left onto U.S. 278 from Pinckney Colony Road. Roff, driving a 1997 Honda motorcycle, was traveling in the opposite direction on U.S. 278. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

Ott said Wednesday that an autopsy for Roff is unlikely to be scheduled.
