Beaufort man charged with assault after police say he attacked his girlfriend, another man

A Beaufort man faces felony charges after police accused him of attacking his girlfriend and another man over the weekend, according to the Port Royal Police Department.

Gerardo Laurido Jordan, 31, was charged with one count of first-degree assault and battery.

Officers were called to a home on Combahee Way in the Shadow Moss neighborhood around 11:17 p.m. Saturday after a woman reported she was driving herself to the hospital. The woman told police she had gotten into a fight with her boyfriend but did not want to press charges. Officers later responded to Beaufort Memorial Hospital where the woman and a man were both suffering from injuries.

The woman, who was not named in the report, told police that the three of them had been at Station 300, a bowling alley and arcade in Bluffton, and were “having a good time.” The boyfriend, identified as Laurido, began yelling at her. The person in the backseat, who was also not named in the report, said he defended her and that he and Laurido started fighting while the woman was driving.

When she got home, the woman said she shoved Laurido several times “because of what happened in the car.” She told police that Laurido then attacked her. Doctors told her she had a small amount of bleeding on the brain, according to the report.

Laurido bonded out of the detention center in Beaufort on Monday.

When we publish mugshots

The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette publishes police booking photos, or mugshots, in the following instances:

  • In situations where a public figure or someone in a position of public trust is arrested
  • In cases where there is an immediate and widespread threat to public safety
  • In cases where the arrested person is accused of a crime reporters have evidence to believe involved numerous, unknown victims

Reporters will avoid using mugshots as lead images for online articles in order to limit their circulation on social media, except in cases where the public is served by the immediate identification of the accused. Reporters and editors may use discretion in situations that don’t meet the criteria outlined in this policy but still present a compelling reason to publish a mugshot.
