After escaping custody in June, man charged with attempted murder found in Hardeeville
Nearly two months after escaping custody from Jasper County deputies, a man charged with two counts of attempted murder was found and arrested Thursday night in Hardeeville, police said.
Tyrek Frazier, 21, of Gillisonville, S.C., was found at around 9 p.m. Thursday night, when Hardeeville police identified and pulled over a stolen Georgia vehicle near Exit 8 on U.S. 278 in Hardeeville, according to Hardeeville Police Chief Sam Woodward. Frazier, two other adults and two children were inside the vehicle. Frazier gave police a fictitious name but was later identified and arrested after police asked for his license, Woodward said.
In addition to two counts of attempted murder, Frazier also faces an additional felony charge for his escape from custody. As of Friday, he is being held at the Jasper County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Crosby, a spokesperson for the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
The two other adults in the vehicle were also taken to Jasper County Detention Center for various charges, including the theft of the vehicle. The two children were released to their parents.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office has been searching for Frazier since his escape from custody June 17. Frazier was being led into a patrol vehicle to be taken to Jasper County Detention Center when he broke away from deputies and fled into the nearby woods. After a group of officers and K-9 units could not locate Frazier, police said they had reason to believe he had left the area.
Frazier’s charges of attempted murder stem from an incident occurring the previous night. Frazier and Zasha Orr were parked at a convenience store in Ridgeland when they got into a verbal fight with a man and a woman in another car. With Orr driving, the two followed the other car down Snake Road, and Orr began ramming the other vehicle, police said.
Further down Snake Road, Orr pulled beside the other car and Frazier opened fire with a .45 caliber handgun, police said. Multiple bullets hit the victim’s car, and the man driving was shot in the shoulder. The man and woman drove to Beaufort Memorial Hospital and called law enforcement.
Frazier and Orr were pulled over during a traffic stop later that night, after having switched cars to evade detection. The two were taken to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Office, where Orr was charged with two counts of first-degree assault and battery and taken to Jasper County Detention Center. Frazier was charged with two counts of attempted murder, among other charges, and escaped as deputies attempted to transport him to the detention center.
Orr was no longer at the detention center as of Friday, records show.
