Fire at Hilton Head gated community home started from a grill on the deck, officials say

At least one person was injured after a fire started at a home Monday in a Hilton Head Island gated community, officials from Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue said in a press release.

Firefighters were called out to Forest Drive in Sea Pines around 3:08 p.m. for the fire, which started from flames on a grill located “very close” to the home’s outer wall on the back deck of the home. Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue recommends that grills be at least 10 feet from an exterior wall.

The fire spread from the outside wall to the second floor and attic area where it caused “extensive damage,” officials said. The first floor had some smoke and water damage.

One person was taken to the hospital to treat minor burns.
