2 teens charged and 3rd detained in armed robbery Tuesday on Hilton Head, police say
Two people were arrested and a minor was detained after police accused them of robbing a man at gunpoint at a Hilton Head Burger King, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
Daryl Depass, 17, of Port Royal, and Christopher Johnson, 18, of Burton, were charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon in the commission of a violent crime.
Police were called out to the Burger King on Museum Street around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday after a man reported he had been robbed, according to Maj. Bob Bromage with the Sheriff’s Office. The man was assaulted in the robbery and told police the three that had robbed him had taken off with a cellphone and money. The amount of cash that was stolen was not immediately available.
The man gave a description to police of the three people he said robbed him and the car they were in, Bromage said. Later on, that car was seen by deputies crossing the Broad River Bridge.
One juvenile, who was not identified by police, was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia, Bromage said.
On Wednesday, both Depass and Johnson were in custody at the detention center in Beaufort.
