Want to hear the candidates for Beaufort County sheriff? Here are 2 upcoming events
Voters who wish to hear from candidates running for Beaufort County sheriff can do so in separate events next week.
Joey “JoJo” Woodward Jr., a former Beaufort County sheriff’s captain and a solicitor’s investigator in the 14th Circuit, will be on hand at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 at the Grays Hill Community Center on Bruce K. Smalls Boulevard
“This is how I and my campaign plan on conducting ourselves in the weeks leading up to the election and beyond,” Woodward said in the press release. “This is indicative of how I conducted myself ... and how I intend on running the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, should I get the honor of holding that post.”
Sheriff P.J. Tanner, who has been in the position since 1998, said he has two to three speaking events scheduled per day from now until the upcoming primary election. Some are for his campaign, and others are as acting sheriff for Beaufort County, he said. His next public event is at 5 p.m. Monday, May 16 at the Fuji Teppanyaki Restaurant on Sea Island Parkway.
“Any time that a sheriff has an opportunity ... to be in front of the citizens and residents we serve, you’ve got to be there,” Tanner said. “That’s part of the job, it’s part of the mission.”
Tanner and Woodward are running as Republicans in the June 14 primary election.
