Florida man, 85, dies from injuries days after Beaufort Co. crash on US 17, officials say

An 85-year-old Florida lawyer died at a hospital days after being struck by two oncoming cars on U.S. 17 last week in Beaufort County, according to officials.

James F. Moseley, 85, of Jacksonville, Florida, died at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston on Monday after the crash three days prior, Beaufort County Chief Deputy Coroner Debbie Youmans said.

At 11:46 a.m. on Mar. 25, Moseley was heading south on U.S. 17 near Jacob White Road in a Buick, when he “went left of center” and hit an oncoming SUV and tractor-trailer, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Nick Pye.

Moseley was an attorney for over 50 years, a senior partner at Moseley Prichard Parrish Knight & Jones in Jacksonville, and a leading authority on maritime law, according to his law firm website bio.

His law firm confirmed the Moseley in the crash was the same one who worked there.

Moseley was a graduate of the Citadel in Charleston. He also previously served in the U.S. Army as a captain and earned the U.S. Coast Guard Meritorious Public Service Award in 1998, his bio said.

No autopsy will be conducted, said Youmans.
