59-year-old Beaufort man killed in tractor-trailer crash in Ridgeland, officials say
The coroner’s office has released the identity of a 59-year-old man killed while driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer Friday morning on Gillison Branch Road, officials say.
John Bryan, 59, of Beaufort was pronounced dead at the crash scene, Jasper County Coroner Willie P. Aiken III announced via the office’s Facebook page.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Bryan’s truck was heading west at 3:21 a.m. on Gillison Branch Road, a portion of S.C. 462, and Firetower Road, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Nick Pye. Bryan ran off the road to the left and struck a ditch, then a tree, Pye said.
An autopsy will take place at the Medical University of South Carolina, according to the coroner’s office.
At least five people have died on Jasper County roads in 2022 and two people were killed in Beaufort County crashes, according to the Department of Public Safety.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, Pye said.
