Beaufort County woman robbed after using Facebook Marketplace, police say
Three teens are accused of holding a woman at gunpoint Friday in Burton after she put up an advertisement on Facebook Marketplace police say.
It happened at a home on on Roseida Road in Burton, an unincorporated community in northern Beaufort County, said Maj. Bob Bromage from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. The woman had listed a cellphone for sale on the site. Early afternoon Friday, she was robbed at gunpoint but was not injured, according to police.
Officers responded to the home and later made the arrest.
Dorrian Morgan, 17, of Burton was charged Friday with armed robbery, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center jail log. Because of the seriousness of the crime, Morgan will be tried as an adult, Bromage said.
If convicted, the felony can carry 10 to 30 years in prison, per the S.C. Code of Laws.
The other two involved, who were not named by police because they are minors, were petitioned to Family Court and transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia, Bromage said.
As of Sunday, Morgan was still in custody at the Beaufort County Detention Center. An attorney has yet to be identified, court records show.
