Man dead after head-on crash on SC 462 in Jasper County, officials say. What we know

A man died on S.C. 462 in Jasper County after his car crashed head-on with a pickup truck on Tuesday morning, according to authorities.
The crash occurred on the rural highway, also known as Lowcountry Drive, near Marsh Cove and Green Place, according to Jasper County Fire Rescue Lt. Garrett Lucas.
S.C. Highway Patrol, the agency investigating the crash, reports a sedan traveling west and the pickup truck traveling east crashed head-on on Lowcountry Drive at 6:30 a.m., Trooper Nick Pye said in a news release.
The sedan’s driver was killed in the crash, while the pickup truck driver was uninjured, he said.
Reached by phone later in the morning, Jasper County Coroner Willie P. Aiken III said he was leaving the scene of the crash to inform next of kin of the man’s death.
His identity is not subject to release yet.
The crash is under investigation by Highway Patrol.
The sedan driver who was killed was wearing a seat belt, while the pickup truck driver was not, Pye said.
Lucas said two ambulances, two fire engines, a supervisor with Fire Rescue responded to the scene. Responders were at the site of the crash for around two hours, he said.
Since Jan. 11, 2021, there have been 21 fatal crashes in Jasper County, according to the S.C. Department of Public Safety fatality dashboard.
