Coroner identifies driver ejected from car on I-95 in Jasper County
A driver who was killed in a crash on an Interstate 95 exit ramp Friday in Jasper County has been identified, according to the county Coroner’s Office.
Kyle Riley, 22, of Ridgeland, was pronounced dead at the scene Friday night, Jasper County Coroner Willie P. Aiken III said in a post on the office’s Facebook page. Riley was heading north in a 2017 Chevy Malibu on I-95 at 8:20 p.m., according to S.C. Highway Patrol Master Trooper Brian T. Lee. Riley attempted to exit at mile marker 28, lost control of the car and ran off the road, Lee said. The car was overturned and Riley was ejected.
Riley was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Lee said.
The crash is being investigated by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the post said.
An autopsy for Riley has been scheduled for Thursday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
According to the latest data from the S.C. Department of Public Safety, there have been at least 11 crashes in the state resulting in 12 deaths in 2022.
