Driver dies after being ejected from vehicle on I-95 in Jasper County, police say

One person died after being ejected from their vehicle Friday night on Interstate 95 in Jasper County, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The driver of a 2017 Chevy Malibu attempted to take Exit 28 on I-95 North when it ran off the road, spokesperson Master Trooper Brian Lee said.

The vehicle overturned and the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, was ejected from the car, he said.

The driver later died from their injuries.

The Jasper County Coroner’s Office did not immediately return a call Saturday morning inquiring about the identification of the driver.

The crash is under investigation by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

As of Saturday morning there had been 11 fatal collisions in South Carolina resulting in 12 deaths, according to data from the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
