5-year-old killed in possible drive-by shooting Tuesday in Jasper County, police say
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office has enlisted help from the S.C. Law Enforcement Division to investigate a possible drive-by shooting that killed a child Tuesday night.
The victim was identified Wednesday afternoon in a press release from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office as 5-year-old Deandre Robinson. Deandre was at his family’s home at the time of the shooting, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Crosby with the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the Wagon Branch area around 9:15 p.m., according to a post on the office’s Facebook page. Deandre was taken to the Ridgeland Fire Department by family and later transported to Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, the release said.
“This is an active investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and further information will be released when available,” the post said.
Police are not releasing information on possible suspects at this time and the investigation is ongoing, Crosby said.
In a GoFundMe set up to help the family with funeral expenses, Deandre was described as the “light of everyone’s life” and a sweet boy.
