35-year-old man dead after stabbing Thursday morning on St. Helena Island, police say

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man, 35, died following a stabbing on St. Helena Island early Thursday.

Dominick Lesesene, 35, of St. Helena, was found around 1 a.m. Thursday near Olde Church Road on St. Helena after deputies received a call about a stabbing, according to an alert from the Sheriff’s Office. Emergency responders attempted to revive Lesesene, but were unable to, the alert said. Lesesene died at the scene from apparent stab wounds, according to police.

Witnesses told police they saw Lesesene fighting with a man who stabbed him multiple times, the alert said. The man left before police arrived. The alert said there appears to be no threat to the general public, and deputies are looking for a “person of interest.”

An autopsy for Lesesene has not been scheduled, according to Beaufort County Coroner David Ott.

Anyone with information may call the Sheriff’s Office dispatch at (843) 524-2777 or Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry at (843) 554-1111.
