One dead, one hospitalized after head-on crash Saturday in Jasper County, police say
A two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon left one person dead and another injured after a pickup truck traveled left of center and hit another car head-on on S.C. 46, officials say.
The crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. on S.C. 46 near Coleman Loop between a 2003 Chevy Impala and a 2001 GMC Sierra pickup truck, according to Cpl. Matt Southern of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The driver of the Chevy “sustained fatal injuries at the scene,” Southern said. The driver of the GMC was transported to Savannah Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The Chevy was driving east on S.C. 46 and the GMC was heading west when the GMC “crossed the center line” and hit the Chevy head-on, Southern said. The driver of the Chevy was not wearing a seat belt, according to Southern, and it is unknown whether the driver of the GMC was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the GMC has been charged with driving left of center, Southern said.
The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Southern said.
