Maryland man charged Wednesday in 2020 sexual assault at Hilton Head hotel, police say

A Maryland man has been charged with criminal sexual conduct after police say he sexually assaulted a person at a hotel on Hilton Head in 2020.

David Baca, 58, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, was charged Wednesday with criminal sexual conduct in the third degree, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center jail log. The assault occurred at a Hilton Head hotel the night of on Oct. 25, 2020, according to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Maj. Bob Bromage. The victim, an adult, reported the incident, Bromage said.

If convicted of the felony, Baca could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years, according to the S.C. Code of Laws.

As of noon Wednesday, Baca was in custody at the Beaufort County Detention Center.
