Police charge 5 with trafficking heroin, cocaine after raiding Hardeeville hotel room

Five people were charged with drug trafficking after police raided a room at the Days Inn hotel in Hardeeville this weekend.

The Hardeeville Police Department charged Stephen Ackerman, 41, Danielle Sporn, 31, and Douglas Shipes, 37, all of Hardeeville; David Freeman, 37, of Varnville; and Sophia Jacquin, 20, of Hilton Head Island with drug trafficking on Saturday, according to jail records.

Ackerman’s charges include trafficking of crack cocaine, intent to distribute a schedule I drug, and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Sporn and Jacquin face two charges for cocaine and heroine trafficking. Freeman is charged with one count of trafficking cocaine, the jail records say.

Shipes was charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol after police found him with a stolen pistol from Estill, according to Hardeeville Police Department Chief Sam Woodward.

Shipes is out on bond, according to VINE, a crime victim’s notification network. The other four are being held at the Jasper County Detention Center.

Woodward said the investigation was a joint effort with the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office and is part of an ongoing partnership with the agency to investigate crimes in Hardeeville.

An undercover officer purchased drugs at the hotel, and then investigators obtained a search warrant and went to the Days Inn late on Friday night, he said.
