1 killed in Hampton County crash when truck leaves the road, strikes tree

One person was killed in a crash in Hampton County on Saturday.

A 2011 Dodge Ram pickup was traveling west on Lento Road when it crossed into the opposite lane, left the road and struck a tree just before 6 p.m., S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell said.

John Albert Cohen Sr., 66 of Varnville, was the driver and died in the crash, Hampton County Coroner Angela Topper said. Cohen was wearing a seatbelt, Tidwell said.

The truck was the only vehicle involved, and Cohen was the only occupant.
