Residents report Friday morning fire at Sandalwood Terrace apartments on Hilton Head

This article has been updated with information from Hilton Head Fire Rescue officials.

A faulty ventilation fan was the likely culprit of a structure fire in a Sandalwood Terrace tenant’s bathroom around 9 a.m. Friday, said Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue public information officer Joheida Fister in a news release.

No one was present in the unit at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported, the news release said. Crews saw light smoke coming from the building when they arrived, and the fire was put out within 10 minutes, it said.

Video sent in by resident Tiffany Glover showed ambulances, fire trucks and people scattered around the public housing complex.

Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Bob Bromage confirmed that his department responded to the fire.
