Fire at Old Town’s Bluffton BBQ causes ‘significant damage.’ Here’s what we know
A fire broke out at Bluffton BBQ early Wednesday morning, causing “significant damage” to the building’s exterior cooking area before firefighters quickly put the flames out, according to officials.
At 2:30 a.m., firefighters from the Bluffton Township Fire District responded to Old Town Bluffton to find a fire blazing in the area where the meats are cooked at Bluffton BBQ, said Capt. Randy Hunter.
Hunter estimates the restaurant won’t be able to open for at least a few days.
Firefighters were able to put out the flames within 30 minutes, and the fire did not reach the interior of the building. It did, however, cause “significant damage” to the outdoor area, he said.
There were no injuries, according to Hunter, and the only person at Bluffton BBQ at the time of the fire was owner Ted Huffman. He was cooking the meat for the coming day.
Huffman did not return a call or email Wednesday morning.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Hunter said.
