2 injured after head-on collision in Bluffton traps them in their vehicles late Friday
Two people were hospitalized after a head-on collision Friday night on May River Road in Bluffton, according to a Bluffton officials.
The crash happened at 11:30 p.m. on S.C. 46 near the New Riverside viaduct, closing the highway for about three hours.
Two people were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated, a Bluffton Township Fire District news release said. One person was extricated “quickly” while it took an hour-and-a-half to extricate the second person.
The first person was taken by EMS to the hospital and the second was transported to a local trauma center by helicopter, the release said. The status of the patients was unknown Saturday morning.
The Bluffton Police Department is still investigating the crash, but it appears that one of the vehicles swerved into oncoming traffic and hit the other, spokesperson Capt. Joe Babkiewicz said Saturday. No charges have been filed.
