Prison guard from Bluffton charged after trying to bring alcohol to inmate, officials say
A guard at Ridgeland Correctional Institution accused of smuggling alcohol into the prison in water bottles for an inmate has been fired, according to the state corrections agency.
Albany Carisma Dupont, 22, of Bluffton was also charged with misconduct in office and criminal conspiracy on Wednesday, according to the S.C. Department of Corrections.
On Aug. 7, Dupont attempted to bring in alcohol for an inmate and was caught by Ridgeland Correctional staff, an arrest warrant states.
Dupont was freed on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond, according to court records.
Conviction on a criminal conspiracy charge is a felony that can bring up to five years in prison or a $5,000 fine. Misconduct in office can bring up to one year in prison or a $1,000 fine.
