Driver killed in Jasper County crash on his way home from work, authorities say

A Yemassee man was killed in a car crash in Jasper County on Sunday.

The man was driving north on a frontage road near Alexander Road about eight miles north of Ridgeland when his 1998 Audi sedan ran off the road and struck a tree at 5:45 p.m., S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell said. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, Tidwell said.

Xavier Hamilton, 30, was identified as the driver, Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls said.

Hamilton appeared to be on his way home from work at Burger King in Okatie when he crossed the center line and struck a large pine tree, Sauls said. He died instantly, the coroner said.
