Struggle over a gun after neighbor dispute in Port Royal leaves two injured, police say
A dispute between neighbors in Port Royal became violent early Saturday after a struggle over a gun. Two were shot and taken to the hospital, according to authorities.
Quintarus Johnson, 33, of Port Royal faces one count of attempted murder and one count of possessing a firearm during a violent crime, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center jail logs.
Shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday, the Port Royal Police Department were called to the parking lot of the Stuart Towne Apartments where Johnson and his neighbor had both been shot, according to Det. Kim Carter.
Carter said the two had an “ongoing feud for several months” as neighbors, but this was the first time police had been called.
This time, they argued in the parking lot, and Johnson pulled out a .40 caliber pistol, according to Carter.
She said he shot his neighbor twice, and then, as the two were locked in a struggle for the weapon, Johnson was shot in the hand.
Both Johnson and his neighbor were taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital and underwent surgery, according to Carter.
She said both were expected to recover following their procedures.
Johnson was booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center on Saturday, and his bond was set at $100,000, according to jail logs.
