Bluffton police officer uninjured after car crashes into pole on Okatie Highway

A Bluffton police officer was uninjured Friday morning when the cruiser she was driving ran into a ditch and hit a utility pole on S.C. 170 during a rain storm, according to authorities.

The crash on the Okatie Highway near Argent Boulevard is under investigation by S.C Highway Patrol, according to Cpl. Matt Southern.

The officer was driving back from the Beaufort County Detention Center round 2:30 a.m. Friday when “she lost control of her vehicle and struck a utility pole,” said Bluffton Police Department Capt. Joe Babkiewicz.

He said it was “raining pretty heavily” and that “weather was a factor” in the crash.

Southern could offer few details about the crash since the investigation is on-going.

The front of the car was dented, and it had to be towed from the scene, said Babkiewicz.
