Rap music video filmed in Bluffton leads police to stolen golf cart, report says

A police investigation into a slew of stolen golf carts in Beaufort County led authorities to an unlikely spot.

A rap music video.

Deputies discovered a music video filmed in Bluffton that showed young men brandishing guns, cash, and a recognizable stolen golf cart, according to a report from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Spliced between scenes of men dancing on a roof and lip-syncing to a rap song, a bright orange golf cart is shown clearly in one scene in the video.

Deputies say the orange cart fit the description of a gold golf cart previously reported stolen from Bluffton Park.

“[T]he seat color, amount of seats (4), body color and style, as well as the wheels, appeared to match the details of the stolen gold cart,” the report said.

Parts of the video were filmed at an abandoned business at 1316 Fording Island Road and other parts at a Bluffton residential home.

Using street signs shown in the rap video, deputies arrived at the Bluffton home on May 28 “where the subjects were dancing on the roof,” the report said.

Police spoke with an occupant of the house who brought investigators to the back yard where the golf cart was located.

A Bluffton police officer who arrived later contacted the victim of the golf cart theft, who “verified the golf cart to be his,” said the report.

No arrests were made. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating other golf cart thefts.
