NC woman spent almost $10K at Hilton Head hotels. She’s been arrested, police say

A North Carolina woman has been charged with forgery and fraud at three Hilton Head Island hotels after ringing up nearly $10,000 in charges, part of a string of incidents across the island, according to police and court authorities.

Tiffanie Bolden, 38, of Hickory, N.C., was charged with forgery Wednesday and three additional charges of financial transaction fraud on Friday, according to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Bob Bromage.

Bolden allegedly used a compromised business account to reserve a room at the Omni Resort in Palmetto Dunes on May 24. She spent $4,322 on the account and fraudulently signed for it, according to an arrest warrant filed in Beaufort County court.

Police say Bolden spent $3,327 when she stayed at the Marriott Resort in Palmetto Dunes from May 18-24.

She then charged $2,331 for two rooms at the Home2 Suites Hotel from May 24-27, said Bromage.

The Omni and Marriott Resorts are within about a half-mile of one another in Palmetto Dunes. The Home2 Suites hotel is a little over 1 1/2-mile away from both on William Hilton Parkway.

Bolden had others with her staying in the rooms, which made up the bulk of the charges along with orders for room service, police said.

Investigators say she had accomplices. The incidents are part of a string of recent credit card frauds at Hilton Head Island hotels, according to Bromage.

“Other similar incidents during this time frame are under investigation. Additional charges are possible,” he said.

Each charge is a felony and could bring up to five years in prison upon conviction.

“Beaufort County residents and guests are encouraged to regularly check their bank account activity to better identify fraudulent purchases early,” Bromage said.
