Bluffton man, 72, charged after police say he had ‘inappropriate relationship’ with minor

A 72-year-old Bluffton man faces charges after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a child under the age of 16.

Bluffton police charged Cliffton Scott, 72, on Wednesday with one count of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the 3rd degree, one count of sexual exploitation of a minor in the 2nd degree, and one count of disseminating harmful material to a minor.

The victim’s father reported to police in February that his daughter told a therapist that Scott had shown her pornography, according to a police report.

He allegedly told the victim “not to tell anyone” and “that it is their secret,” the report says.

Bluffton police investigated the claims and obtained a search and arrest warrant for Scott. Three investigators and two officers executed both warrants at Scott’s Bluffton residence at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, according to department spokesperson Capt. Joe Babkiewicz.

Scott is in detention at the Beaufort County Detention Center. His bond has not been set.
