Kayakers find man’s body in water off St. Helena Island. Officials investigating

The body of a man who has yet to be identified was found Saturday afternoon by kayakers in the water off St. Helena Island, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources recovered the body in an area near Eddings Point Road near Polawana Island.

An autopsy will be conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to help officials determine the cause and manner of the man’s death as well as identify him.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death and said it will release more details when they become available.
