4 people hospitalized after hit and run. Yemassee man arrested hours later
A domestic dispute at a Yemassee home Thursday night led to a car crash that injured at least four people, sending them to the hospital, police say.
Just after 9:45 p.m., Yemassee Police responded to a 911 call at a home at Church Street South and Green Street.
When they arrived, they learned a man involved in a domestic dispute nearby got into a pickup truck, put it in reverse and hit a parked vehicle, which “subsequently ran over several people,” a police department release said. The man then left the scene.
Police later identified the man as Christopher Ulmer of Yemassee and arrested him about 1:30 a.m. at a home in Early Branch. He was charged with four felony counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
Two people who were hit by the vehicle “suffered great bodily injury” and were flown in separate helicopters to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for treatment. A third person was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, and a fourth person was taken to Hampton Regional Medical Center.
The Yemassee Police Department was assisted by the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office, Yemassee Fire Department, Hampton County EMS, Beaufort County EMS, and CareFlight.
The status of the four people injured were not available Friday morning.
