Bluffton man charged with kidnapping after allegedly taking ex-girlfriend’s child
A Bluffton man was charged with kidnapping and first-degree burglary Wednesday after he allegedly took his ex-girlfriend’s child without her permission, police say.
Christopher Faulcon, 38, faces two charges after Bluffton police say he went into the home of an ex-girlfriend and took her five-year-old son, according to department spokesperson Capt. Joe Babkiewicz.
Police responded to the call at 11:41 p.m. Wednesday about the alleged kidnapping. After meeting with the mother, officers were able to locate Faulcon at his home on Buck Island Road, police said.
A standoff began with Faulcon in the shed of his home with the child, police said. At least three Bluffton police officers stood outside and shouted for him to come out, said Babkiewicz.
He said the encounter lasted from 30 minutes to an hour. After Faulcon did not respond to ”several warnings,” Backiewicz said officers sent in a K-9 unit because they were unsure if he was armed.
The K-9 incapacitated an unarmed Faulcon, and Bluffton police officers went into the shed to arrest him, according to police. Faulcon was in custody at 1:30 a.m., and transported to a local hospital for treatment of “minor injuries,” according to Backiewicz.
The five-year-old was safely returned to his mother early Thursday morning, he said.
Faulcon’s bond was set at $125,000. He is currently being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center, according to jail logs.
