Police looking for Beaufort County man who pulled gun on family, officials say
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is looking for 24-year-old Tyrone Moultrie, wanted on two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature after family members in Dale say he pulled a gun on them Tuesday.
“It was reported that during this morning’s domestic incident Moultrie was in possession of a handgun, so he may be armed,” a Sheriff’s Office release says. “Though Moultrie made no threats to the safety of the general public; he should not be approached.”
The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team spent several hours clearing a house at 247 Keans Neck Road in Dale in an attempt to find Moultrie. The house was cleared in the late afternoon hours but Moultrie wasn’t inside.
Two family members said Moultrie pointed a gun at them during an argument, Maj. Bob Bromage of the sheriff’s office said Tuesday.
Moutrie then turned the gun away from the family members and fired several shots into the ground.
“They (family members) feared for their safety and left the residence to contact law enforcement,” Bromage said.
It was unknown if Moultrie was still inside the residence when police arrived, Bromage said.
“We set up a perimeter and called the SWAT to further look into if the individual was in the house,” Bromage said. “Safety is first for everybody - for the subject, the community and first responders.”
Assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature can be considered a felony, according to South Carolina law.
