Beaufort County man charged with murder in fatal Jasper County shooting, officials say
A 19-year-old St. Helena Island man was arrested Tuesday and charged with fatally shooting a man at the Black Presidents Motorcycle Club in Point South earlier this year, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
Dante Bailey is charged with murder in the deadly shooting that injured two others, Sheriff’s Office Det. Sgt. Jake Higgins said. Bailey was extradited to Jasper County after being arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and S.C. Law Enforcement Division.
The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. Jan. 12 at a birthday party where more than 100 people had gathered, according to previous reporting. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.
Kevon Williams Jr., 23, of Ridgeland, died from his injuries several hours later at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
During the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office reviewed video from club surveillance cameras and cellphone videos, in addition to interviewing witnesses.
Higgins said other possible suspects have not been ruled out, and the investigation is ongoing. In the days after the shooting, the Sheriff’s Office said they were investigating at least two suspects.
The Black Presidents Club is on Kings Highway in Jasper County, just outside Yemassee town limits.
