Suspects who shot 2 men near Battery Creek High wore ski masks, police report says

A Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report reveals details of a double shooting that placed two schools on lockdown last week.

Three men wearing ski masks shot two men while they were in the yard of a Jennings Road residence about 3 p.m. on Jan. 30, one of the victims told police, according to the report.

The three suspected shooters ran away immediately after the shooting, the report says.

The suspects have not been identified, nor are they in custody.

One of the victims remained hospitalized Tuesday at Medical University of South Carolina, Sheriff’s Office Maj. Bob Bromage said.

The second victim was released from Beaufort Memorial Hospital, he said.

Battery Creek High School and Robert Smalls International Academy, both located near the shooting location, were placed under modified lockdowns and delayed dismissals as police searched for the suspects.

Bromage said police were able to determine a probable direction of travel of the suspects.

“We deployed the K-9 team, which tracked for awhile,” Bromage said. “The subjects responsible for the shooting have not been located at this time.”

An investigation continues, Bromage said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Sheriff’s Office Investigator Daniel Duhamel at 843-255-3430 or Crimestoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111, if wishing to remain anonymous and for possible reward.
