Seeing police, fire trucks and ambulances at Hilton Head schools today? Here’s why

Beaufort County’s police, fire and emergency medical service agencies will be gathering at Hilton Head Island Elementary School Thursday to complete an active shooter training, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday morning.

In a press release, the sheriff’s office advised that Hilton Head residents and motorists “may see an increased public safety presence” around the Hilton Head Island school complex as a result of the drill.

Beaufort County School District teachers will return to work the Jan. 6, and students will return Jan. 7.
