Beaufort Co. man charged with murder pointed stolen gun at deputies during arrest, police say

A 30-year-old Grays Hill man who was arrested Monday in the early-morning killing of a Seabrook man faces additional charges after he allegedly pointed a stolen handgun at deputies during his arrest, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Terrance Morgan was charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime following a dispute that started over a card game. He is accused in the shooting that killed 26-year-old Medicus Watson and seriously injured another man just before 2 a.m. Monday at a Burton residence.

Morgan, who was also injured in the shooting, was taken to the hospital, treated, and released later that morning.

After investigating, deputies obtained arrests warrants for Morgan and drove to his home on Peaceful Way, where they found him in the yard. When Morgan saw the deputies, he pointed a handgun at the patrol car before running away, the release said. Deputies later discovered the gun had been reported stolen from Port Royal.

Three deputies chased Morgan on foot when he pointed the handgun at them again before throwing it on the ground and continuing to run. Morgan was apprehended soon after.

No one was injured, and no shots were fired during the chase.

Deputies obtained arrests warrants Tuesday morning to charge Morgan with three counts of pointing and presenting a firearm, the release said.

Morgan remains in the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
