Bluffton to hold vigil for 5-year-old killed in Christmas parade accident

The Town of Bluffton will hold a vigil in memory of Ameer Frazier, the 5-year-old who was tragically killed Saturday just after the conclusion of the town’s Christmas parade.

The vigil will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at Eagles Field on Buck Island Road, according to a news release.

“The Town of Bluffton lost one of its youngest members,” the release said. “We send our deepest condolences to the Frazier and Ford families and hold them in our prayers.”

The accident happened in the Red Cedar Elementary School parking lot, the ending point of the parade where all the floats and vehicles disbanded, according to Bluffton Police Department spokesman Capt. Joe Babkiewicz.

The accident involved a float as Frazier was being dropped off at the end of the parade, a police press release sent Sunday afternoon said.

Frazier, who loved football and running, was known for his smile.

“He had a smile that could light up a room,” his aunt, Carletha Frazier Singleton, said. “He was always a happy little boy.”

Thursday’s vigil is open to the public.
